"Cider" is an alcoholic beverage made usually from fermented apples, but pear and other pomme fruit varieties are popular as well. Made popular in the United Kingdom and drunk most widely there, it is referred to as "hard" cider in the United States to distinguish it from the non-alcoholic version.
